Vanished Souls – Vanished Souls (CD Album – Frozen Records)
Genre/Influences: Indie-rock, rock-pop.
Background/Info: This self-titled album is the second opus for the French formation Vanished Souls. The band is already active for a couple of years now and has released a debut album “Cities R Real” plus a few EP’s. This album was originally released in France in 2018 and in Belgium in 2019.
Content: The opening cut sounds pretty evasive creating a kind of rock-ballad effect. Quite progressively the songs are moving into indie-rock music where the guitar play has an important role. The choruses have something carrying while the singer’s high timbre of voice appears to be one of the main characteristics of this band.
+ + + : “Vanished Souls” clearly appears to be the result from a great production process. The sound is very professional. Most of the songs feature great choruses. The previously released single “You’re Not Alone” remains a cool song, but the potential hit appears to be “Nauseous”. This song has something powerful and yet accomplished with melodic arrangements. Other attention grabbers are “3:42 (Extended)” and “Shame”, which both are pretty indie like. I also have to mention the somewhat harder “Am Your Shadow” reminding me to Public Enemy.
– – – : I’m not into the softer passages of the work, which have something monotonous.
Conclusion: Vanished Souls composes easy listening music revealing several enjoyable songs, but maybe not an absolute hit.
Best songs: “Nauseous”, “My ROM”, “Shame”, “3:42 (Extended)”.
