Genre/Influences: Minimal-electro, experimental.

Background/Info: American Nikolas Schreck is a man from many talents; he’s not only musician and producer but also author and film-maker. He has worked with some very famous bands and is active in the scene for quite a long time. The 12-inch “The Futura Model” was originally released by the end of 2017, but I think it was worth to give you a late review about it.

Content: The work features 3 cuts. The original title song is a rather electro-minimal cut characterized by cool bleeps and string passages. We next get 2 remixes.

+ + + : I like the original version for its vague 80s touch, but it also is a very personal interpretation mixing vintage sounds, minimalism and an experimental touch. Nikolas Schreck also has a very particular timbre of voice. Among the ‘remixes’ or alternative edits I especially recommend the so called “Parallel Version”.

– – – : I just regret there’s only one ‘original’ song featured here.

Conclusion: I can only hope to hear more music from Nikolas Schreck.

Best songs: “The Futura Model”.

Rate: (6½).

I have been working for over 30 years with Side-line as the main reviewer. My taste is eclectic, uncoventional and I prefer to look for the pearls, even if the bands are completely unknown, thus staying loyal to the Side-Line philosophy of nurturing new talents.

Since you’re here …

… we have a small favour to ask. More people are reading Side-Line Magazine than ever but advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news organisations, we haven’t put up a paywall – we want to keep our journalism as open as we can - and we refuse to add annoying advertising. So you can see why we need to ask for your help.

Side-Line’s independent journalism takes a lot of time, money and hard work to produce. But we do it because we want to push the artists we like and who are equally fighting to survive.

If everyone who reads our reporting, who likes it, helps fund it, our future would be much more secure. For as little as 5 US$, you can support Side-Line Magazine – and it only takes a minute. Thank you.
