Genre/Influences: Krautorck, experimental.

Background/Info: “Angstzweet” is the 16th chapter of the “Belgian NeuMusik”-series created by Belgian label Wool-E Discs. It also is the second work by Onsturicheit for this conceptual exposure. “Angstzweet” has been mainly created by modular equipment.

Content: The krautrock approach is definitely more present on this work then on its predecessor “Waan”. The work features 2 long duration cuts plus one shorter track. The songs have been progressively built up and are literally growing until a sonic apotheosis. The last cut has something early Kraftwerk-like, right, when they were more concerned by krautrock themselves.

+ + + : Two albums by Onsturicheit and even if you easily recognize the modular sounds “Angstzweet” sounds different than “Waan”. It’s more electro-like and getting the magic of modular synths back to life. Peter Moorkens reveals to be a truly sound architect who creates impressive sound treatments like space-bleeping sequences, vibrating bass lines and cool spoken, whispering-like samplings. The last cut “Zweet” is an absolute masterpiece.

– – – : The short track (cf. “Rilling”) from the list is not exactly the most convincing one.

Conclusion: “Angstzweet” translated as ‘cold sweat’ will appeal all lovers from early electronic modular synth music. This is krautrock ano 2018/2019 and made in Belgium.

Best songs: “Zweet”, “Angst”.

Rate: (7½).

Inferno Sound Diaries
I have been working for over 30 years with Side-line as the main reviewer. My taste is eclectic, uncoventional and I prefer to look for the pearls, even if the bands are completely unknown, thus staying loyal to the Side-Line philosophy of nurturing new talents.

Since you’re here …

… we have a small favour to ask. More people are reading Side-Line Magazine than ever but advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news organisations, we haven’t put up a paywall – we want to keep our journalism as open as we can - and we refuse to add annoying advertising. So you can see why we need to ask for your help.

Side-Line’s independent journalism takes a lot of time, money and hard work to produce. But we do it because we want to push the artists we like and who are equally fighting to survive.

If everyone who reads our reporting, who likes it, helps fund it, our future would be much more secure. For as little as 5 US$, you can support Side-Line Magazine – and it only takes a minute. Thank you.
