13TH Monkey – Abyssal Disruption (CD Album – Hands)
Genre/Influences: Industrial-techno.
Background/Info: Andreas Thedens and Harm Bremer are back on track, unleashing the third opus of their common project. 13TH Monkey strikes back after a hiatus of eight years; the last studio work being released in 2011.
Content: I already enjoyed both debut albums, and “Abyssal Disruption” sounds a bit like the continuation of what they’ve done before. The main difference is that the global production became more techno driven resulting in a truly industrial-techno work. Heavy, pumping kicks, which they call the ‘paradigmatic bang’ have been mixed with filtered sound treatments and acid sequences –which you especially can hear during the last part of the work.
+ + + : Ten tracks of pure ‘dance-terror’! I think there’s no better way to define the merciless dance assaults merging from this work. But it’s not simply an industrial-techno fusion, but still an album revealing irresistible sound treatments. The tracks are rather long in duration sometimes creating a transcendental effect. I also enjoyed the acid-like passages running through several songs.
– – – : The sound formula is great, but sometimes a little bit repetitive.
Conclusion: This is pure power and sonic adrenaline symbolizing the return of this genius duo!
Best songs: “Kraken”, “Tyrrok”, “Orwok”, “Grainz”, “Manic”.

… we have a small favour to ask. More people are reading Side-Line Magazine than ever but advertising revenues across the media are falling fast.
