Deimos Moon – Dark Desire (CD Album – ScentAir Records)

Background/Info: Originally set up in 2012 by Russian DJ and composer Aleksey Osipov, Deimos Moon’s line-up was completed with female singer Anastasia Velikanova and later on by another singer and keyboardist Nyura Pashkevitch-Tichina. The band self-released some digital work and last year unleashed their official debut album on ScentAir Records.
Content: This work features two parts. You first of all will discover somewhat raw- and cold electro-pop sound and next more classical, melancholic electro-pop music. All vocals have been sung in English. The last cut is a cover version of Depeche Mode’s “Behind The Wheel”.
+ + + : I especially like the raw and unpolished side of the “Dark Desire”. The band reveals personal sound treatments and not exactly the most classic electro-pop format. It still has a cool retro-like feeling. The songs have been meticulously crafted and I can only, but recommend discovering a track such as “Paralyzed Shut-Eye” and the more aggressive-driven “Heaven And Hell”. I also enjoyed the vocals of Anastasia Velikanova.
– – – : Depeche Mode’s cover is not exactly the best song from this album although I can imagine it’s the perfect track to play on stage. The melancholic side of this opus is less personal.
Conclusion: I can’t claim to have discovered the next big electro-pop sensation, but “Dark Desire” is a pretty cool work featuring noticeable songs.
