Genre/Influences: Dark-ambient.

Background/Info: Polish solo-project Inner Vision Laboratory joined hands with Winter-Light after several  productions released on labels such as Rage In Eden, Zoharum, Far From Showbiz ao. “Relics” is inspired by  ‘different science-fiction and post-apocalyptic books and movies, but also from the artists’ personal thoughts regarding mankind’s condition’.

Content: “Relics” can be seen as an experimental- and or visionary dark-ambient release. The dark atmospheres inject a tormented touch to the work, but the main specificities appear to be the impressive sound treatments. There’s a constant sound manipulation joined by surprising, hard exploding sound blasts, crashes and all kind of noises. The tracks are all progressively moving towards a hard sound web.

+ + + : The heavy sound blasts make the particularity and main strength of this album. It creates a perfect osmosis with the dark- and visual-like atmospheres. The sounds clearly reflect dark and disturbing images we’re all hiding with fear in our deepest inner-self. I feel a very intimate atmosphere created by the simple magic of dark sound creation.

– – – : The sound formula becomes somewhat repetitive, but nobody will complain when the result is that efficient.

Conclusion: “Relics” is an invitation to bring your inner demons and most perverted thoughts alive. It sounds like the exploration of a sick mind so be careful when you start listening to this opus.

Best songs: “Derelicts”, “Relics”, “Badlands”.

Rate: (8).

I have been working for over 30 years with Side-line as the main reviewer. My taste is eclectic, uncoventional and I prefer to look for the pearls, even if the bands are completely unknown, thus staying loyal to the Side-Line philosophy of nurturing new talents.

Since you’re here …

… we have a small favour to ask. More people are reading Side-Line Magazine than ever but advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news organisations, we haven’t put up a paywall – we want to keep our journalism as open as we can - and we refuse to add annoying advertising. So you can see why we need to ask for your help.

Side-Line’s independent journalism takes a lot of time, money and hard work to produce. But we do it because we want to push the artists we like and who are equally fighting to survive.

If everyone who reads our reporting, who likes it, helps fund it, our future would be much more secure. For as little as 5 US$, you can support Side-Line Magazine – and it only takes a minute. Thank you.
