Dose – Furniture / Opaque (Vinyl 7” – A Turntable Friend Records)
Genre/Influences: Guitar-wave, shoegaze, rock-wave.
Background/Info: We welcome Dose, which is unleashing their debut single on vinyl format. The band is hailing from Newcastle-Upon-Tyne (UK).
Content: The first song is getting us back to the dark guitar-wave and shoegaze music from the 80s. The sweet, shimmering vocals perfectly fit to the coldness of the sound. There’s a heavy guitar passage right in the midst of the song. The B-side sounds pretty similar in style and influences, but is definitely a B-side track.
+ + + : It’s not that easy to get an objective opinion after having heard 2 songs. All I can say is that there are different influences running through this work, which has this 80s nostalgia combined with a more personal approach. The “Furniture”-song makes sense!
– – – : This single reminds me of the good-old days where you could listen to 7” featuring a strong title song and a forgettable B-side track. I can’t say “Furniture” is a potential hit, but it sounds cool. “Opaque” has less substance and is rather forgettable.
Conclusion: A single can give you an idea about a new band, but I need to hear more stuff from Dose to get an idea about their potential.
Best songs: “Furniture”.

… we have a small favour to ask. More people are reading Side-Line Magazine than ever but advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news organisations, we haven’t put up a paywall – we want to keep our journalism as open as we can - and we refuse to add annoying advertising. So you can see why we need to ask for your help.
Side-Line’s independent journalism takes a lot of time, money and hard work to produce. But we do it because we want to push the artists we like and who are equally fighting to survive.
If everyone who reads our reporting, who likes it, helps fund it, our future would be much more secure. For as little as 5 US$, you can support Side-Line Magazine – and it only takes a minute. Thank you.
