Genre/Influences: Electro-pop.

Background/Info: While the Norwegian electro-pop duo is working on a new album, Razgrom Music is revisiting the back catalogue of the band. “Bullets & Desert Blooms” was originally released in 2014 on Nordic Records. The songs have been reworked by the band and now re-released on Razgrom Music with 5 bonus songs.

Content: This is one of my favorite Electro Spectre releases. “Bullets & Desert Blooms” reflects the maturity of the band, but first of all their nose to compose genius music. Sometimes into melancholic passages, but also driven by danceable kicks and solid bass lines, this work is diversified, but always carried by a cool vintage electronic elements.

The bonus cuts feature an extra song plus 4 remixes.

+ + + : Electro Spectre has this little extra in songwriting and sound production, which differentiates them from other band sin the genre. I often call it a proper sound DNA, which for this band is characterized by great bass lines, danceable kicks, carrying leads and a talented vocalist. It’s not a copy of 80s synth-pop music, but music with a great retro-flavor on top. I also enjoyed the bonus part of this work featuring remixes by Mondtraeume, Apodyopsis vs. Ice Machine and Christofer Nergaard (2 remixes).

– – – : You can always discuss about it, but what I often missed on Electro Spectre albums is the ultimate hit!

Conclusion: This album is more recent, but it was a pleasure to re-discover this work as limited edition featuring bonus cuts and re-worked songs. Up now to the new album!

Best songs: “Your Love Is A Criminal”, “Graveyard Eyes”, “Superstar”, “Silver Eye”, “Fashion”, “Heartbeat – Apodyopsis vs. Ice Machine”.

I have been working for over 30 years with Side-line as the main reviewer. My taste is eclectic, uncoventional and I prefer to look for the pearls, even if the bands are completely unknown, thus staying loyal to the Side-Line philosophy of nurturing new talents.

Since you’re here …

… we have a small favour to ask. More people are reading Side-Line Magazine than ever but advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news organisations, we haven’t put up a paywall – we want to keep our journalism as open as we can - and we refuse to add annoying advertising. So you can see why we need to ask for your help.

Side-Line’s independent journalism takes a lot of time, money and hard work to produce. But we do it because we want to push the artists we like and who are equally fighting to survive.

If everyone who reads our reporting, who likes it, helps fund it, our future would be much more secure. For as little as 5 US$, you can support Side-Line Magazine – and it only takes a minute. Thank you.
