Petit Singe – Akash Ganga (Vinyl 12” – Haunter Records)
Genre/Influences: Tribal, electro, ambient, ritual.
Background/Info: Hazina Francia is an Italian artist who already released a few productions on Haunter Records. “Akash Ganga” is an interesting production to discover this project.
Content: This EP features 5 different tracks, which are covering a wide sonic palette. It all starts in a rather bombastic way revealing heavy sound treatments mixed with tribal rhythms. Some mystic-like chants are joining in. The main basis remains pretty tribal-like, but the compositions are moving from ambient atmospheres towards refined and subtle electronic effects to a more evasive final.
+ + + : Petit Singe (translated ‘Little Monkey’) reveals to be a great electronic artist. This work is an intelligent and especially original composition revealing impressive sound treatments. The tribal aspect has been masterly accomplished creating a magic harmony with the electronic refinement. The title song reminds me of This Morn’Omina. But I also have to mention “Challenge” for its darker and somewhat ritual-like approach.
– – – : I can’t say that I don’t like the final track, but the dreamy sensation running through this cut is totally different from the other cuts.
Conclusion: I wasn’t familiar with the work of Petit Singe, but I can assure you “Akash Ganga” is a work I’ll keep in mind. This is an original and efficient production!
Best songs: “Akash Ganga”, “Challenge”, “Hue & Cry”.
