Nórdika – Ecstasy (CD Album – Scentair Records)
Genre/Influences: Electro-pop.
Background/Info: Mexico became a prolific ground for dark-electronic formations, but is maybe a bit less familiar for electro-pop music. Nórdika (aka Alejandro Marin) has already released several full lengths and is now back on track unleashing this opus.
Content: Nórdika is an interesting formation for its different approach to compose electro-pop music. The composition is more into minimalism and ghost-like synth parts. The vocals have been produced a similar way although you now and then will hear a more emotional way of singing. There also is a melancholic elements hanging over the work. Some cuts are carried by a harder, danceable kick.
+ + + : The least I can say is that Nórdika takes some distance with the ‘regular’ electro-pop bands, which are often a pale copy of a greater band. Nórdika tries to compose a more personal music, which sounds –despite of the lack of diversity between the songs, pretty pleasant. I like the minimal touch running through “No Perfection” and the dreamy melancholia recovering “Oblivion”.
– – – : The songs are somewhat similar to each other and that’s for sure one of the main elements that can be improved. Some of the vocals are also missing a bit more passion.
Conclusion: Nórdika is now busy for several years and have released multiple productions, but the band remains drowned in the wider ocean of electro-pop bands. This work is easy to listen to, but I’m missing a real passion and spirit running through the songs.
