Antibiosis – Hellish Puzzle (CD Album – Advoxya Records)

Background/Info: Antibiosis is a Russian duo, which was set up in 2013 and unleashing their official debut work on Advoxya Records.
Content: The opening cuts clearly reveal EBM influences mixed with melodic leads. The melody lines sound a bit like a dark future-pop format. The vocals are harsh and into typical dark-electronic tradition. The songs were accomplished with subtle and sometime crystalline sounding bleeps. I also noticed hopping sequences injecting an extra dynamic into the songs.
Next to the 10 original songs, “Hellish Puzzle” also features 6 remixes by A7iz, Alien:Nation, Venal Flesh, Cutoff:Sky, Adeonesis and Viscera Drip. All bands are dealing with similar dark-electronic influences so you’ll get no real surprises.
+ + + : Antibiosis is not reinventing any electro-underground format, but they clearly appear to be talented melody makers. The melody lines mixed with the danceable rhythms plus the dark-electro and EBM influences have been accomplished with knowledge. But the songs are still very efficient so in the end I can only, but recognize this is a strong debut work. Among the remixes I especially want to tip the work of Venal Flesh and Adeonesis.
– – – : “Hellish Puzzle” is an interesting and real cool work, but unfortunately not really something new. I expected a bit more out of some remixes, which inject some diversity in the dark-electronic approach, but no real bonus to the original songs.
Conclusion: Antibiosis is a new name active at the wider fields of dark-electronics, but “Hellish Puzzle” is a significant and successful debut so it means this is a band to keep an eye on!
Best songs: “Terror Followers”, “Deformed Life”, “Wishmaster”, “Gas Asphyxiation”, “Deformed Life – Venal flesh Remix”.
